How to choose your sauna

Shape, heater and space. A few questions that make the choice much easier the first time.

Shape: barrel, square or oval?

The barrel (Hede) heats up fastest – the round shape distributes the heat evenly, and there's less room to warm up. Choose it for quick rounds for two or three people.

The square one (Birk) gives more space, better insulation and room for longer stays. The oval (Klint) is the largest – for when you're many, or when the sauna is also a place to gather.

Heater: how big?

For most Danish gardens an electric heater of 6–9 kW is the right balance. It turns on at the push of a button, needs no firewood and warms the room in about half an hour. Choose the output to match the room – if in doubt, we'll help you.

Space and placement

Allow 50–80 cm of clearance to the house, fence and bushes. An outdoor sauna sits best with shelter behind and a view in front – where you'd lay a terrace anyway. If a cold plunge is joining, plan the drainage in from the start.

The wood is chosen for you

All our models are thermowood, the material that lasts longest and patinates beautifully. So that decision you can safely skip.
